Behold the first Cornell’s of Watertown Bag of Crap from http://woot.com
An ipod pillow with speakers. A whopee cshion. A few pictures of racing dweebs. A handheld Sudoku thing. And like 6 wine totes… I’m more excited than I should be.

So besides the fact that my wife had to leave today for a trip that was going to separate us for more days in a row then we’ve been apart for 7 some odd years… it was a great day. We walked and had lunch outside at the Panera court yard.
After we dropped off Mariel at the airport Chase, Dexter and I went to the Fillipello Park for about an hour and I guess I didn’t take any pictures of that. Then we went home for some classic Dad dinner – chicken tenders, french fries, and Arthur pasta. All that while watching Ratatouille. Baths, showers, stories and we are doing pretty well 5 hours into a Mariel-less long weekend.
Below is a picture of Chase trying to “shared’ Dexter’s dessert. He is a bottomless pit when it comes to all things in ice form.
Here is a snapshot of Mariel’s flight path right before Dexter goes to bed.

Here’s a link to the google maps
THE BIG MAP
Charting this out inspired a mix of laughter and panic.
First things first – $$$… need to make sure that we can make rent out there in San Diego. Everyone and their pet has been telling us that it’s really REALLY expensive to live out there.
My response to this has usually been “Oh really? Well that’s a problem” but internally I’ve been saying “This person is completely out of their mind if they think that there COULD be anything more expensive then Boston.”
Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure there are more expensive places to live… like Monte Carlo, um, the embassy in Iraq, or um the Moon. But really when rent gets this high there’s really not much room for expansion.
Using the internet to validate my beliefs we find that BOOM Cost of Living is the same 0% different and salaries are 5.9% less…
Any way Mariel is flying out there this week for an interview and there’s not much doubt in my mind that she’s going to get about the same result she usually gets and they are going to love her. In anticipation we started to consider HOW THE HECK YOU MOVE YOUR EVERYTHING COAST TO COAST.
And we have no good idea… mind you, we have plenty of ideas, just no good ones.
Here is a smattering of ideas:
Sell our beloved Car and fly out with two cats, two kids, and absolutely none of our possessions in tow.
Sell the car, buy or rent a Van or RV and drive out with the cats and two kids. It’s 3,339 miles and 48 hours worth of traveling time. Daunting.
Rent a trailer to hitch up to the subaru and drive the whole way.
Drive to Virginia, take a train with the car down to florida and drive the rest of the way from there.
Sell the car and take a train across country to soak up the scenery.
[turns out you can’t take cats on trains because human rights activists lobbied to get animals banned from trains in like 1979 or something – great job guys]
Sell the Cats, Fly the car out, put the kids on a train and Mariel and I hitchhike out.
Mariel flies out alone with Chase and Dexter, Eddie, Subbie, and I make the drive out.
Egh. We got real tired just thinking about the drive out… here is the map of the trip broken up with pitstops at the places we think we may have friends or family to rest up with along the way.

One too many winters… one too many colds… not enough chances to get to the beach before the New England Fall gives the bum’s rush to you best intentions. These are just a few of the reasons Mariel and I are looking to relocate.
The world is looking a bit too big to us and we want to make it a bit smaller. Getting a good way into my thirties and the prospect of living and dying in Massachusetts is not for fun.
This blog entry marks the beginning of our California category of posts. Here shall go things relating to our target of interest…. San Diego.
